Signs your Pet has Allergies

Fleas and ticks can make your pet miserable, and can even cause sickness and death if not treated. Fleas and ticks can also get on people from pets, so they are something to be avoided as much as possible. At Bridgerland-Cache Animal Hospital in Logan, UT, we want to help pets with parasite prevention as much as possible. As a veterinarian, we can give your pets some medical treatments that will help a lot with parasite prevention, but there are still things you can do for your pet that will help.

Outdoor parasite prevention

Part of having fun with your pet is the time you spend outdoors. This is also great fun for your pet, but it is also where the most parasites like fleas and ticks can attach to your pet. The medication given by your veterinarian will take care of most of them, but there may be some that get past the prevention. Avoid tall weeds with your pets as those are places fleas and ticks like to hide. Also, avoid wooded areas, or don't let your pets go too deep into the woods. Paths or trails are usually ok, but keep your pet from spending too much time around tall plants in nature.

Indoor parasite prevention

If you live in a wooded area, or away from Logan out in the country, you may have trouble keeping parasites out of your house. Keep an eye out for them and use pesticides that are safe around pets to control them. Check yourself and your pets after being in the wooded areas to make sure neither of you have picked up a tick. It's important to also keep your pet's bedding clean.
